How PicsResize Works

A transparent look at our client-side processing engine and browser canvas architecture.

Most online file converters send your photos across the internet to their servers, process them remotely, and send back a download link. PicsResize was architected differently from day one. We believe that image editing belongs directly inside your browser.

Architecture Breakdown

Step-by-Step Lifecycle of Your Image

01

Select or Drop Images

When you select an image or drag it onto our dropzone, the browser reads the file directly from your local file system using the modern HTML5 File API and creates an in-memory Object URL. No network upload occurs.

02

Local Canvas Transformation

The image is painted onto an off-screen HTML5 <canvas> element. Our engine applies bicubic scaling, crop matrix clipping, rotational transforms, and watermark text passes strictly inside your computer’s CPU/GPU memory.

03

Client-Side Encoding & Compression

The canvas is exported using native browser image encoders (such as canvas.toBlob) at your chosen quality level. Browser-image-compression algorithms optimize quantization tables without server round-trips.

04

Direct Local Download or ZIP Archive

Processed blobs are packaged with JSZip for multi-file batches and saved directly to your Downloads folder using client-side anchor triggers. Zero bytes of your photographs are sent to or stored on our servers.

Key Technical Advantages

HTML5 Canvas API

Provides pixel-level manipulation, hardware-accelerated 2D rendering, and native format encoding without external binary plugins.

IndexedDB Session Storage

Temporary browser-local storage retains your working gallery during your editing session and clears automatically when you finish.

Zero Latency & Zero Bandwidth Waste

Because files are not uploaded or downloaded over internet connections, batch resizing 100 megabytes of photos takes seconds rather than minutes.

Complete Security & Confidentiality

Ideal for medical records, sensitive financial documents, family portraits, and confidential corporate mockups.
